PARTICIPATION

Participation Contract

Program participants are expected to work collaboratively and respectfully with each other throughout the duration of CMI. Participants must continually demonstrate respect, dignity, and courtesy at all times. Columbia University values diversity of thought and background, seeks to create a better world for all, and strives to be welcoming and inclusive of everyone with consideration and respect for others, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability or religion.

Participants are expected to maintain professional and appropriate relationships during the program. A romantic and/or sexual relationship between a mentor/mentee pair is inappropriate and inconsistent with the nature of CMI. Such relationships/activities are grounds for immediate removal from CMI.

As a participant in CMI, you are committed to meeting the following expectations:

 Connect with mentor/mentee a minimum of one (1) hour per week
 Attend mandatory CMI programs
 Attend family tree activities
 Complete program evaluations (i.e. surveys, mid-semester evaluation, video testimonial, etc.)

Failure to notify family tree chairs of absences to mandatory events will be cause for removal from the program. All program participants must be enrolled in classes during the fall 2013-2014 academic year.

I have read and understand the expectations outlined and I will do my best to contribute to the effectiveness of the Columbia Mentoring Initiative (CMI). It is my responsibility to sustain contact with my mentor/mentee. I will participate in activities, programs and workshops as they relate to this program to the best of my ability. I will refrain from behavior that endangers the safety and well-being of my mentor/mentee, and adhere to the nondiscrimination policy outlined by the program. If I am unable or unwilling to adhere to the policy therein, I understand that I will be asked to leave the program. I will uphold and fulfill the mission of CMI, and abide by the expectations of me held by the programs sponsoring office.
