Focus On Feeding New York City - Monday, March 30th
March 19, 2009 - 6:56pm
Between 2003-2005, an average of 1.2 million New York City residents, including over 400,000 children, lived in households facing food insecurity, according to federal statistics calculated by the Coalition Against Hunger. As the city faces an economic downturn, the need to understand the root causes of hunger and innovative interventions is paramount. Whether you are a tutor, visit the elderly, work with the homeless, or are just interested in the issue of hunger, this is a great opportunity. You will be able to discuss and share your experiences and thoughts, as well as learn from the experts who work in this field. We hope to see you Monday night!
Monday, March 30, 2009
6:30pm - 8:30pm
James Room, 4th Floor Barnard Hall
Barnard College, 117th Street and Broadway
“Focus On" Mission: Focus On dinners highlight particular issues facing New Yorkers that cut across the many volunteer activities in which we engage. Bringing together Barnard College and Columbia University students, New York Cares Team Leaders, and a panel of professionals from nonprofits, government agencies, and research bodies, participants learn about an issue, become better volunteers, and are exposed to a wide array of potential career and volunteer opportunities from each other and the guest speakers. These events are collaboration between the Barnard College New York City Civic Engagement Program, Columbia University Office of Student Group Advising, Community Impact, and New York Cares.
