Starting in summer 2014, Columbia offers a new summer program, focusing on the languages, history and culture of the Maghreb region and its relations with the Middle East and France. The program, based first in Amman and then moving to Paris, allows students to take coursework in Arabic (first through fourth year offered) and a seminar on the Maghreb region, including the topics of migration, diaspora and transnationalism in the context of music, literature and film.   • Intensive Japanese language study and the opportunity to choose from a broad spectrum of social sciences and humanities courses on premodern and contemporary Japan.
