Columbia College Major Declaration
Welcome to the online system for declaring your academic program in Columbia College. Ideally by now you have developed your interests to the point where you are ready to focus your academic energies for the rest of your time at Columbia. If you still are not sure which major or concentration is right for you it is incumbent upon you to consult with your Advising Dean, faculty in departments of interest, Departmental Web Pages, and the Columbia College Bulletin before March 6, which is when this online declaration system shuts down. You are required to declare a program before that date.
Before you use this system to declare your academic program, here are a few reminders from the Columbia College Bulletin:
- Major/Concentration Degree Requirements: All students must complete at least one major or concentration to fulfill the degree requirements; students may select a major, concentration, special concentration, and/or a special program in addition to this first selection. Selecting only a special concentration or special program will not fulfill the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree.
- Double Major/Concentration: All students attempting to complete double majors, double concentrations, or a combination of a major and a concentration should keep in mind that they must complete separate sets of required and related courses for each field. A single course may not be counted twice.
- Premed vs. Premedical Concentration in...: Students interested in medical school are not required to declare a premedical concentration (see next note); you may instead declare a regular concentration or major while fulfilling the premedical requirements. Please note your interest in applying to a health professions school or law school by making the appropriate selection on the declaration form.
- Premedical Concentration Restrictions: The purpose of a premedical concentration is to allow students who are completing the requirements for medical school to be able to benefit fully from a liberal arts curriculum. Therefore, students declaring a premedical concentration may not combine it with another premedical concentration, a regular concentration, or a major.
You can access the online system for declaring your academic program via the button at the top right of this page. You may select up to two majors, concentrations, special programs, or special concentrations from the options provided in the pull-down menus on the declaration page.
If you have problems with the system or if you make a mistake, please go to the Center for Student Advising in 403 Lerner to fix any error in person.
Also note that while most majors can be officially declared using this online system, the departments on the list below also require written departmental approval to finalize your declaration. Print and fill out this form (CC Major Declaration Signature Form) and take it to the appropriate department (addresses listed below). Once departmental approval has been obtained, bring your form to 403 Lerner to finalize your declaration.

Finally, please check your Columbia email once you have logged out of this system . You should receive an email confirming your academic program and providing information about your department's system for advising new majors.
Before you visit your new faculty adviser we suggest that you create a plan of study based upon your major’s pre-requisites, requirements, and course offerings. Bring this plan with you when you meet with your adviser for the first time to ensure that you are getting the most out of your discussion.
Congratulations and good luck!
