General Advising
All entering Columbia College and Columbia Engineering students are assigned an adviser who will remain their primary adviser throughout their four years at Columbia. The adviser helps students to:
- understand Columbia’s academic curriculum, procedures, and policies
- create and refine short and long term educational goals
- select areas of study, including majors and concentrations
- connect with faculty members and university resources
- address academic difficulties
Upon declaration of a major or concentration in the sophomore year, all students are assigned to a faculty advisor in their major. However, upperclassmen will continue to work with their primary adviser to ensure the successful completion of degree requirements and to prepare for post-graduate opportunities.
