The engineer in the 21st century must be able
to navigate an ever-changing and ever-expanding
technological landscape and understand the context
for his or her work - not only the natural, physical
environment but also the political and social
environment.
Students entering The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science are encouraged to consider
the wide range of possibilities open to them both academically and professionally. To this end, the first
and second years of the four-year undergraduate program expose students to a cross-fertilization of ideas
from different disciplines within the University. The sequence of study proceeds from an engagement with
engineering and scientific fundamentals, along with humanities and social sciences, toward an increasingly focused
training in the third and fourth year designed to give students mastery of certain principles and arts central to
engineering and applied science.
In the last two years, Columbia Engineers specialize
in their department of interest. One of the great
attractions of an undergraduate education at a
research university is the range of resources
it provides, including the vast array of programs
of study it offers. The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied
Science currently offers 16 majors and 34 engineering
or liberal arts minors. To aid you in your search
for the right major, we have designed the following
