Resources for Program Planning
During the summer, the Center for Student Advising recommends starting to think about your fall academic program and research courses, departments, and majors.
The Academic Planning Guide for New Students is an excellent place to start.
For Columbia College students, the CC Bulletin contains a wealth of important information about individual departments, faculty contacts, major requirements, as well as detailed course descriptions. You will also find information about AP credits for various subjects.
For Columbia Engineering students, the CE Bulletin contains important information about departments, faculty contacts, nontechnical electives and requirements, minors, detailed course descriptions, and detailed charts for major requirements.
Columbia College and Columbia Engineering students should note that the Bulletins contain both the titles of classes and logistical information (when and where classes meet) and also course descriptions. The Directory of Classes is useful for quickly finding information about classes, but it does not include descriptions. It also contains course information for all of Columbia University's schools and programs, including classes you may not be eligible to take.
A short handout (How exactly do I register?) provides a step-by-step guide to registration for fall classes, including screen shots of the registration process. All incoming students will register on the Friday of New Student Orientation.
