Welcome to Columbia, Class of 2017!

The Center for Student Advising offers a number of resources to help you plan your Columbia academic program. We want to encourage you to think about your courses and plan of study before you arrive on campus.

Most importantly, you should make every effort to attend a COLUMBIA 101 summer advising session. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet other Columbia students and families, get helpful information, and learn what it’s really like to be a student at Columbia. We’ll have current students and Advising Deans from the Center for Student Advising on hand to answer your questions. You will learn about campus life, academic advising, and the many support services available for students. Please check the 2013 COLUMBIA 101 schedule for specific program details, including session locations, dates, and registration information.

In addition, you should read through the Academic Planning Guide for New Students and fill out the CC or SEAS tear-out sheet. You are expected to bring that sheet with you for your initial advising appointment with your academic adviser during NSOP.

During July and August, the CSA Advising Deans will host a series of live online chats, during which incoming students will have the opportunity to ask questions about academic planning and other matters. We will also post a number of short videos about registration, the Core curriculum, AP credit, the transition to college, and other topics.

You will receive an email from the Center for Student Advising in August with the name and contact information of your academic adviser. Shortly thereafter, your adviser will email you to introduce him/herself. During NSOP, you will meet with your adviser in person, before you register for classes.

If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to the Center for Student Advising.

We look forward to welcoming you to campus at the end of August!
