Dean of Student Affairs Office

Dean Kevin Shollenberger at Columbia College Class Day 2009

Supporting the academic missions of Columbia College and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Division of Student Affairs is responsible for the cocurricular life of undergraduates in both of these schools. To assist students in all matters beyond actual course instruction, the Division develops programs and services intended to foster community, maintain a respectful and inclusive campus environment, and enrich the student experience at Columbia. It is the Division’s belief that a thoughtfully-conceived, well-executed cocurricular program is vital to student success, and will both enrich the academic experience and help students achieve their educational and personal goals.

The Dean of Student Affairs/Vice President for Undergraduate Student Life provides leadership and direction for the Division and serves as its chief executive officer. The dean has direct responsibility for the units of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Financial Aid and Educational Financing, Center for Student Advising, Office of Judicial Affairs, Office of Residential Programs, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Student Development and Activities, and Office of Student Group Advising.

Housed within the Dean of Student Affairs Office are Communications; Special Events; Parent and Family Programs; Student and Alumni Programs; Research, Planning, and Reporting; and the Student Affairs Central Business Office. These offices serve the undergraduate community and are also resources for faculty, administrators, alumni, parents, and families.
