GradZone is the central on-line source for graduation-related information for students of Columbia College and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science and their families. On these pages, you will find everything you need to know regarding various graduation ceremonies and events.

Graduating students and parents and families of graduating students should mark their calendars for upcoming graduation activities beginning with a Baccalaureate Ceremony on Sunday, May 18, 2008 and concluding with University Commencement on May 21, 2008.

Baccalaureate Ceremony


Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 10:30am

St. Paul's Chapel


The Baccalaureate Ceremony is an interfaith ceremony for all undergraduates (Columbia College, Fu School of Engineering and Applied Science, Barnard College and the School of General Studies). No tickets are required but seating is limited.

Columbia College Class Day


Monday, May 19, 2008 at 9:30am

South Lawn


The Columbia College Class Day exercise is a ceremony specifically for Columbia College to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2008. It is at Class Day that students hear their names read aloud as they walk across the stage, have their photograph taken, and receive a class pin. The program also includes remarks by a featured speaker, the Dean, and several students, as well as an awards ceremony. No tickets are required for guests, and seating is unlimited. A reception for all students, faculty, and families is hosted by the Dean of Columbia College on Hamilton Lawn immediately following the ceremony.

SEAS Class Day

University Commencement


Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 10:30am

Low Plaza


University Commencement exercises are for the entire university and degrees are conferred by schools. There is no individual recognition of graduates. Tickets are required for guests (limit 4 tickets per student) and seating is limited.

The Office of Parent/Family Programs in the Dean of Student Affairs Office hosts a Family Reception for all CC and SEAS students and families following the ceremony. This event is held in Alfred Lerner Hall.

GradZone packets are mailed to students and their families at the start of the Spring semester to kick off graduation preparation. The Dean of Student Affairs Office will then communicate information directly to students throughout the Spring semester in GradZone emails, flyers, posters, and mailings.
