Academic Regalia

Students Lined Up for Commencement

Academic regalia (cap and gown) is required of all graduates participating in the Baccalaureate Service, Class Day, and University Commencement.

If you missed the chance to buy regalia at the Columbia University Bookstore's annual Grad Fair in the spring (March 11-13, 2014), you may still purchase regalia at the Bookstore during regular business hours. Bookstore staff will be on-hand to assist with measurements and sizing.

For 2014 CC/SEAS undergraduates: Bachelor Cap, Gown & Tassel: $52.00

At this time regalia is not available for rent, but graduates are welcome to wear Columbia undergraduate regalia from a recent alumnus/a willing to lend it.

After the Ceremony

After University Commencement, you have the option of keeping your regalia as a souvenir or recycling it after graduation at the Bookstore. Regalia that is recycled will be reprocessed into new product.

This year, 50% of the bachelors and masters gowns worn by Columbia grads will be made from post-consumer plastic bottles. Next year, 100% of the inventory will be made from the recycled materials! This initiative is just one component of a larger push for a more sustainable Commencement Week.

If you have questions regarding the purchasing of academic regalia, please contact the Columbia University Bookstore directly by calling 212-854-4131.
