Advisory Board
Role
The Judicial Affairs Advisory Board (JAAB) is a group comprised of student leaders and administrators from Columbia College and Columbia Engineering who work to collectively toward to the evolution of the discipline process.
Since its formation in the spring of 2008, the JAAB has helped to recommend many initiatives designed to assist students who are involved in the University judicial process. The JAAB has also worked to develop peer driven campaigns designed to educate Columbia College and Columbia Engineering students to better understand their role and responsibilities within the Columbia community.
Membership
Currently the JAAB consists of the following members:
Students
- President and VP of Policy - Columbia College Student Council (CCSC)
- President and VP of Policy - Engineering Student Council (ESC)
- Two Members of the Community at Large
- Resident Adviser Representative
- Fraternity and Sorority Life Representative
Administrators
- Senior Assistant Dean for Judicial Affairs and Community Standards
- Associate Director for Judicial Affairs and Community Standards
- Administrative Coordinator for Judicial Affairs and Community Standards
- Director of Residential Programs
- Advising Dean Representative from the Center for Student Advising
Current Initiatives
The JAAB has been responsible for the recommendation of many initiatives since its creation. The following are some of the current initiatives that the JAAB is working on:
- Creating a comprehensive publication of all University policies.
- Standardization of judicial policies and procedures within the three undergraduate schools.
- Redeveloping the OJA website.
Past Initiatives
Previous initiatives have included:
2010
- The CCSC and ESC rename their peer initiative work group the "Dean's Discipline Initiative."
2009
- Expansion of the FAQ section on the OJA website.
- The OJA partners with Residential Programs during RA Training to educate student leaders and staff on the Dean's Discipline Process.
- Development of the Smart, Safe, and Responsible campaign to educate students on community standards.
- Development of a work group within the CCSC and ESC to improve the Dean's Discipline Process.
- Development of a program to be presented during New Student Orientation Program (NSOP) to educate new years students on community standards.
2008
- The publication of explicit instructions informing students of their right to conduct a file review prior to their hearing.
- The creation of the Dean's Discipline Process Resource Person (DDPRP).
