Welcome to your Junior Year

In line with the general Advising Center Mission, the Junior Senior Advising Center (JSAC) seeks to create an open and supportive environment for juniors as they work to complete their undergraduate careers and are preparing for the next chapter of their lives. The staff of the Junior Senior Advising Center realizes that every junior has a range of different needs and goals, and aims at helping students achieve these ends through its advising efforts.

Academic and General Advising

Students are encouraged to talk with their JSAC dean about a variety of issues, including:

  • General academic questions, concerns or difficulties
  • Progress toward and completion of academic requirements
  • Discussing changes in academic program (i.e. Add, drop, or change of major or concentration/minor)
  • Registration questions
  • Degree Audit Report (DAR) interpretation
  • Receiving transfer, outside, AP or summer course credit
  • Notifying faculty about absences or academic difficulties related to an illness or an emergency
  • Special Programs, including 4-1, 3-2 (Combined-Plan), SIPA
  • Other opportunities, including: pre-med and pre-law requirements, study abroad, fellowships, graduate school, and career options
  • Future life plans

JSAC deans also assist students with:

  • Petitions for exceptions to academic policy
  • Requesting an incomplete for a class (CC and SEAS)
  • Academic standing, academic warnings, and probation
  • Voluntary and medical withdrawals
  • Receiving clearance for study abroad
  • Receiving "R" credit for completed internships
  • Receiving clearance to volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital

Appointments and Walk-in Advising Hours

Junior Senior Advising Center deans are able to see students during designated walk-in hours from 3pm - 4pm, Monday through Thursday, and are also available by appointment. Please note that open advising hours are only for questions that can be answered quickly in a few minutes. Any student who needs a longer meeting should schedule an appointment by contacting the Junior Senior Advising Center.

Programming and Events

The Junior Senior Advising Center develops academic programs and information sessions in conjunction with various other university offices and entities, including the Junior Senior Advisory Board*, CC & SEAS Class Councils, Residential Programs, Student Development and Activities, the Center for Career Education, and other Student Affairs offices and academic departments. These include information sessions on joint bachelors and joint masters programs, including 3-2 (Combined Plan), 4-1, and SIPA; study abroad; fellowships; pre-med and pre-law; Connecting "U" to faculty; graduate school as well as post-graduation options. The Junior Senior Advising Center is always open to providing and developing the most pertinent and helpful programs for juniors. We welcome your ideas and feedback! Junior Senior Advisory Board

Any CC or SEAS junior can become a member of the Junior Senior Advisory Board. The board meets with the staff of the Junior Senior Advising Center periodically to discuss issues, give feedback, and help with programming and other initiatives. Weekly Emails

Every week, the Junior Senior Advising Center sends out an e-mail message to all juniors, which includes announcements about deadlines, Junior Senior Advising Center programs, campus events, and other items of particular interest to juniors. Be sure to read the message every week so that you do not miss important information.

Students are held responsible for all information included in all JSAC e-mail messages.
