The Degree Audit Report (DAR)

The Degree Audit Report, known as the "DAR," is one of the most useful tools that you (and we) have to ensure that you are on track to graduate. The DAR indicates what requirements we believe you have completed by showing your courses completed and courses in progress. The DAR serves as the first reference in the graduation clearance process.

Student Services On-line You can access your DAR through Student Services On-line (SSOL). Simply log in with your University Network ID and password. Once you are logged in, in addition to accessing your DAR, you can view your grades, registration, and other parts of your record. The information below will help you in using your DAR to the fullest advantage.

General Requirements

The first part of the DAR tracks the general requirements for your school, showing whether and how you have completed the requirements.

  • Columbia College: the DAR tracks Core requirements.

  • The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science: the DAR tracks non-technical requirements and other requirements of the first two years.

DAR Discrepancies: If your DAR shows that a general requirement is not complete but you believe it is, or if you notice a discrepancy between what appears on your DAR and what appears on other data screens in Student Services On-line (grades, registration, etc.), contact the JuniorSenior Advising Center. A DAR discrepancy can hinder the graduation clearance process!

Please Note:

  • DAR discrepancies occur because although the DAR tracks standard courses, exceptions must be entered individually.

  • You are more likely to be cleared for graduation if you are proactive in clearing exceptions early rather than waiting until the spring.

Major/Concentration

For most majors and concentrations, the DAR tracks standard courses used to fulfill major and concentration requirements. There are some majors that are not tracked by the DAR; please check with your department if you are unsure.

For all majors and concentrations, the DAR does not track related courses, electives, or substitutions. You are encouraged to check with your department to confirm that your records are accurate and that you have completed your requirements. The Columbia College Bulletin and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science Bulletin are both available on-line. It will be your major/concentration department who clears you on your major/concentration for graduation, so it is your department who can tell you if you are on track to complete your major or concentration.

If You Have DAR Problems:

  • with your major or concentration requirements: contact your department since they only they can change this section of the DAR

  • with anything else: contact your dean at the Junior Senior Advising

Summary of Degree Requirements

The final section of the DAR lists all courses completed and in progress. It indicates how many points you have completed and what credits have been transferred. It alerts you to duplicate courses whose points may be removed during the spring degree audit. It also shows you outstanding grades or courses that will not contribute to your degree.

Helpful Hints:

  • Review your DAR carefully at least twice per semester-once before the deadline to add a class and again before the deadline to drop. Be sure you are registered for all of the classes you are attending and those classes only.

  • If you enter your senior year with missing grades, please speak with a advisor in the Junior Senior Advising Center as soon as possible.

Remember, the DAR is a great tool if you use it and make sure it is accurate. An accurate DAR is the first step in making sure that your graduation clearance is timely and smooth.
