Advising in the Junior Year
Columbia offers students a multiple-source advising
system, combining one-on-one advising with a variety
of supplemental outreach resources and services. To
this end, the following resources are provided:
General Advising
Advising Centers
- Class deans in the advising centers advise CC and
SEAS students on various topics, including general academic
progress and other opportunities both within Columbia
and beyond.
Major Advising
In most departments, a faculty advisor is assigned
to majors and concentrators in their junior and senior
years. This faculty advisor can answer questions related
to the requirements of that major or concentration.

Columbia web site - This site presents a vast amount
of information that will help students locate the right
kind of adviser and/or resource for a particular kind
of question. The site also includes a "major comparator"
tool, which analyzes all majors in terms of the same
set of basic questions, so that students can compare
academic programs in detail as a prelude to talking
to advisers about particular majors. s points to advising
resources and presenting the cohesive linkages between
resources.
