Why should I connect with faculty?

Connecting with faculty can improve the overall quality of your education.

Faculty members can serve as great mentors. They might gear you toward undergraduate research or other job opportunities and are amazing resources for information. They are the leading experts in their disciplines.

And let’s face it, you will be turning to faculty when it comes time to request letters of recommendation and receive post-graduate guidance.

Faculty also benefit from these connections. Speaking with undergraduates helps them stay in touch with the new generation of students and get feedback on their teaching style. It also gives faculty a chance to share their passion for their academic discipline.

What workshops can I look forward to this year?

This year, the Connecting U team expects to host workshops geared toward transfer students, pre-law and pre-health students, and sophomores preparing to declare their major. The team will also host general workshops designed to meet all students’ needs.

What will I learn at Connecting U?

You will walk away from a Connecting U workshop with an understanding of University and Faculty culture. You’ll learn strategies to identify and conquer your fears when it comes to taking that “first step.” And you’ll create an action plan to begin connecting with faculty immediately.

Who makes up the Connecting U team?

The Connecting U workshop is co-led by professionals from the Division of Student Affairs and faculty. Some of your classmates have also volunteered to assist in the program and may be available to talk about their own experiences connecting with faculty. If you would like to be a part of the Connecting U team, talk to your Class Dean or Academic Adviser.

For a list of upcoming Connecting U events please refer to the Student Affairs calendar.
