Office of Multicultural Affairs

Days of Dialogue is a bi-annual conference that seeks to engage a broad spectrum of the Columbia University community in active and collective dialogue. Presented by students, faculty, and staff, conference workshops and presentations focus on exploring how various social, cultural, political and institutional constructs impact our lives, communities, and interactions.

EXAMPLE OF A PAST CONFERENCE:

This conference unpacked multiple ways the idea of change has shaped the current political and social discussions of our country. Specifically, we aimed to consider where various communities (e.g., persons of color, queer, religious, working class, women) and their intersections lie on the spectrum of social justice and progress and what works still needs to take place on both individual and institutional levels at Columbia University and on a macro scale.

Days of Dialogue hoped to create the opportunity to simultaneously critique and deepen the “change” maxim.  In light of the 5th anniversary of the CC/SEAS Office of Multicultural Affairs, the conference took a reflective perspective to not only celebrate successes but use history as an instrument to facilitate future learning. We aimed to create a safe space where participants can challenge themselves and others, view our potential impact beyond the Ivy League, and explore the ways we all have agency to affect change.
