Solidarity Weekend: An Anti-Racism Coalition Building Retreat

In collaboration with the annual Students of Color Leadership Retreat (SOCLR), this annual retreat weekend will help identify, support, and strengthen allies to communities of color. Its purpose is to establish and affirm strong positive self-identification within our students while understanding social responsibility where racial privilege is held. While providing a safe space to build meaningful relationships and foster community where students are able to hold each accountable and encourage one another’s growth, Solidarity Weekend is designed to fortify participants in their understanding of the their multiple identities, critical race theory, the history of racial construction, white-skin privilege and colorism, the process of racial socialization, and effective anti-racist alliances.

This retreat will take place in the fall semester at a residential camp setting. Upon returning from the retreat, students are galvanized by the enhanced connections made during the weekend and are able to continue in their work as student leaders with a strong supportive community behind them. Once on campus, participants will then move toward collaborative dialogues and projects with participants from SOCLR.
