You Can Make the Difference!

DOVE advocates assist survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in the emergency rooms of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Advocates volunteer their time and energy to ensure that survivors' voices are heard, safety is assured, and other immediate needs are met, and appropriate linkages to important resources are established.

DOVE Advocates are first-responders, and as such can play a vital role and make the difference in the lives of survivors, family members and friends in the immediate aftermath of the trauma.

Eligibility:

They all share a commitment in wanting to address the needs of survivors and their families during their most vulnerable moments. DOVE Advocates Must Be Able To: Demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting survivors of interpersonal violence. Reach the emergency rooms of New York Presbyterian Hospital, located respectively at West 168th and Broadway and West 220th and Broadway, within 30 minutes. Complete a free 40-hour training course. Comply with medical clearance standards. Be on-call for at least two shifts per month. Make a one-year commitment to the program.
