The University of Iowa Summer Undergraduates MSTP Research Program offers an intensive experience for undergraduates interested in combined MD/PhD training for a career as a physician-scientist. The program provides students with experience in research laboratories and exposure to clinical medicine and medically-relevant research. The SUMR program features research conducted in the laboratory of a faculty member in the biomedical sciences, shadowing of physician-scientists in a clinical setting, Emergency Room shadowing, weekly seminars presenting patient-based discussions emphasizing the intersection of science and medicine, career development seminars, and clinical case-based learning sessions.
Eligibility:
Eligible students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have completed their junior year toward a bachelor’s degree in the biological or physical sciences by the summer of planned participation.
