Trans Awareness Week 2021

Trans Awareness Week at Columbia University is a series of events dedicated to raising awareness and educating the Columbia community about the lives and experiences of transgender and nonbinary communities. The week sets out to celebrate, affirm and center transgender and nonbinary communities on campus and beyond.

An Evening with Dominique Jackson

Monday, Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m. EST
Join LGBTQ @ Columbia, Multicultural Affairs and the NYU LGBTQ+ Center for the first-ever joint Trans Awareness Week Opening Marquee, An Evening with Dominique Jackson from the hit television series POSE! The event will be a moderated conversation with Columbia and NYU students with Dominique speaking about the need to center the experiences, narratives and leadership of Black Trans Womxn and Femmes, and the role that joy, self-care and community-care play in the movement. The event will take place via Zoom Webinar, and registration is required.

Being Beyond the Binary Social

Tuesday, Nov. 17, 8:00 p.m. EST
This is a casual hangout and chill space for Non-Binary, Genderqueer and Gender Non-Conforming Columbia students. Registration is required.

QTPOC Social: Playlist Party

Wednesday, Nov. 18, 7:00 p.m. EST
QTPOC Socials are a social and educational space for queer and trans students of color at Columbia University. Unwind and jam to a musical collection of QTPOC artists and performers and make your own playlist. Registration is required.

Disability Justice and Trans Liberation

Thursday, Nov. 19, 8:00 p.m. EST
This workshop and discussion on the intersections of Disability Justice and Trans Liberation will be led by Brooklyn-based organizer K. Agbebiyi (@SheaButterFemme). Registration is required.

CU Safe Zone Training

Friday, Nov. 20, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. EST
CU Safe Zone is a training session that provides the foundational knowledge needed to support and act in solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities at Columbia University. This campus-wide program was designed to educate and visibly identify students, faculty, and staff who support the LGBTQ+ community, better understand LGBTQ+ communities and some of the issues these communities face and are aware of the various LGBTQ resources available to folks on campus. Registration is required.
