Health and Wellness
Özgenur Çelik, known as "Ozzie" among her peers, views promoting well-being in the community as one of her passions. She has been a CU Well Peer Leader and ROAR@ Columbia facilitator since her freshman summer, leading conversations with incoming students about mental health, self care, and stress management. She is also a certified Peer Educator and serves on the Student Health Advisory Committee, acting as a bridge between the student community and Columbia Health. Guided by Columbia's well-being initiatives, she is a firm believer that well-being is multifaceted and includes intellectual growth. She has been a research assistant and teaching assistant in the Biomedical Engineering Department. She also serves as a Deputy Editor of Scientific Review in Grey Matter's CU, a literary undergraduate neuroscience journal. She believes that knowledge is essential to share and helping students is just‚ "passing the torch" of what she has experienced and the knowledge she has taken from her mentors at Columbia.
It is such an honor to be recognized by my peers, mentors, and Columbia, and to receive the King's Crown Leadership Excellence Award for the second year in a row! I'd like to thank my mentors both academic and extracurricular for believing in me, supporting me, and giving me opportunities to grow and learn. Lastly, I'd like to thank my parents, grandparents, uncle, and Nicholas who have always supported me in what I do.
