Award Recognition

Indelible Mark
Allison is receiving the Indelible Mark Award for her positive contributions to the disability community on campus. She has served as the student coordinator for Spoons, a disability justice dialogue and advocacy group through the Office of Multicultural Affairs, for two years. In this role, she facilitates weekly conversations about disability-related topics and has created a welcoming environment to support disabled students in building community and solidarity across multiple schools at Columbia. This year, she has also served as a mentor to a first-year student in Columbia Mentoring Initiative’s Disability Justice family tree, and will return as an Under1Roof coordinator for a third year this fall to continue connecting first-year students to community and facilitating important conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus. She is incredibly grateful to be a part of the disability community at Columbia, to have helped support it over the past three years.
Thank you to the family members, friends, and mentors who have supported me during my time at Columbia and encouraged me to be an advocate for myself and other disabled students on campus. I am especially thankful for the members of Spoons, old and new—your kindness, humor, persistence, solidarity, and friendship have made Columbia home for the past three years, and I feel incredibly fortunate to live and learn alongside such wonderful people.
