Steamboat Foundation offers a truly unique work experience to exceptional students who might not otherwise have access to influential leaders in their chosen field of interest. The selected Steamboat Scholar will work closely with a Columbia College alumnus, Dr. David Altchek, Associate Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Under the direction of Dr. Altchek, the Steamboat Scholar will participate in ongoing research, clinical evaluations and observation in the operating room. The Scholar will be assigned a project at the beginning of the summer for presentation at the end of the internship.
The Steamboat Foundation will award a $12,000 grant to the selected Steamboat Scholar for the 10 week period, payable in installments over that period. Scholars are subject to the applicable sponsor’s company employee rules.

Eligibility: 
At the time of application candidate must be a third year undergraduate with demonstrated financial need (must be receiving need based Columbia grant monies). The candidate must also have the support and highest recommendation of Columbia University.
