Global Youth Mentorship Initiative

GYMI Students holding up class project artwork in Summer 2014

Our Background

Global Youth Mentorship Initiative (GYMI) was founded at Columbia University, United States, and our members are from Ivy League colleges all over the world. Already, GYMI has established partnerships with well known organizations such as Global China Connection, China Education Symposium, and iJoin.

What We're Trying to Do

GYMI strives to supplement traditional education with innovative mentoring sessions. Volunteers act as mentors to students, teaching them skills related to technology and the arts that foster both pragmatic and creative talent.

Through this program, we ultimately hope GYMI can empower underprivileged youth through a meaningful reciprocal relationship, inspiring them to dream big and explore the outside world. We truly hope that our mission and program will become part of the revolutionary movement to begin to address global educational inequity.

This summer, Columbia GYMI hopes to expand to 8 different sites in China: Quzhou, Zhejiang; Taizhou, Zhejiang; PingYang, Zhejiang; Lu An, Anhui; Guozhuang, Shandong; Zi Gong, Sichuan.
