Description

The UT-Houston Summer Research Program for Undergraduates matches college sophomores, juniors, and non-graduating seniors with faculty scientists to conduct biomedical research in labs throughout the UT Health Science Center at Houston (UT-Houston).

Each year, approximately 50 undergraduate students from Texas and across the nation spend 10 weeks during the summer gaining intensive hands-on laboratory experience under the direction of seasoned faculty researchers and teachers. All undergraduate students are to perform at least 40 hours per week in a research lab.

All program participants also attend weekly, one-hour seminars on cutting-edge biomedical research topics. At the conclusion of the 10-week program, the students write a brief abstract--listing their name and a description of their project--for inclusion in the annual UT-Houston Summer Research Program Abstracts. Students will be provided with instructions and an outline, and will have faculty help in preparing their abstract.

Funding: Participants in the program are paid a financial assistance of $2,500. Students are responsible for travel and living expenses. A limited number of housing spots are available at a reasonable cost. The student must request housing on the application form.

UT-Houston is a large academic institution located in the Texas Medical Center near Houston's beautiful museum district. UT-Houston comprises six schools: Medical, Dental, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health and Allied Health Sciences.
