Description
The Duke University Summer Biomedical Sciences Institute (SBSI) is a free, six-week summer residential experience for rising sophomore and rising junior premedical college students. Recognizing that the academic record is the largest barrier to matriculation to medical school, our program takes a two-pronged approach to preparing students to apply and matriculate to medical school. First, academic content prepares participants for success in the prehealth sciences. And second, advisement provides a plan for success throughout the undergraduate years. The Institute targets students who are underrepresented in the health professions (African American, Hispanic/LatinX, Native American, and Alaska Native), or who are disadvantaged, or who desire to work in underserved communities.
