Welcome to the Office of Residential Programs

Welcome to the Division of Student Affairs, Office of Residential Programs, serving the undergraduates of Columbia College and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Our Mission:

The Office of Residential Programs is committed to providing learning opportunities that support the academic mission of the Undergraduate Schools. The experiences afforded to students in residence must promote their intellectual, social, emotional, and interpersonal growth and development. We foster environments that allow for the expression of individuality balanced with a shared sense of responsibility for the Columbia community.

Our work:

The foundation of our work lies with the undergraduate, graduate, and professional staff, all of whom live and work in the residence halls. The undergraduate staff of Residential Programs includes 119 students as Resident Advisers (RAs) and 12 as Community Programming Assistants (CPAs), who emerge as leaders within the Columbia community. We employ 11 Graduate Assistants (GAs) who oversee one or two buildings, an Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadership Development, and 5 Associate Directors, who oversee residential areas. All of these staff are overseen by a Senior Associate Director and the Assistant Dean for Community Development/Director of Residential Programs.

Together, our staff carries out the mission through a variety of programs within the residence halls. We hope you attend the programs your RA or CPA host. Please consider living in the Living-Learning Center (LLC) or attending programs hosted by one of our Faculty-in-Residence or Dean-in-Residence. If you are a SEAS student, we'd like your involvement in the Gateway Residential Initiative (GRI) or Residential Engineering Initiative (REI). We advise the Special Interest Communities (SICs) and hope you'll propose a new community, join an existing one, or attend one of the many programs our SICs host.

However you choose your involvement in the Columbia community, we are excited to welcome you and work with you throughout your stay in our residence halls.
