Faculty in Residence
Faculty-in-Residence: Professor Robert Harrist Jr.
Professor Harrist is the Faculty in Residence for East Campus and Wien Hall. With his wife, Weizhi Lu, and their son, Jack, the Harrist's live on the 4th floor of East Campus. Professor Harrist is a native of South Texas and his wife a native of the Fujian Province in China. Professor Harrist teaches Art History and specializes in Chinese Art (though he began his academic career as a music major); his wife is a Chinese and Spanish teacher. Before coming to Columbia in 1997, Professor Harrist taught at Oberlin College for 10 years.
Professor Harrist's events are extremely rewarding experiences at Columbia for East Campus and Wien Hall residents. These will include dinners with special guests (faculty and other well-known people from all fields), study breaks, and other social and intellectual events aimed at enhancing the academic climate of the residence halls.
