Welcome to “The Block” residential area of Columbia University! The Block consists of the residence halls on 113th Street and 114th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. Overseeing the area is Adam Fertmann, Associate Director for the Office of Residential Programs. Adam supports the six residence halls that comprise The Block: Broadway, Hogan, McBain, Ruggles, Watt, and 548 West 113th. The Residential Programs office for Block is in 600 W. 113th Suite A, where Adam can be found and residents are encouraged to stop by with any ideas, concerns, or questions. There are over 1200 upper-class students living in our area and all of the residents comprise an extremely diverse community. To highlight some, there are Special Interest Community members (Q House, and Students for Substance Free Space), Sorority and Fraternity students, as well as Transfer and 3/2 students, religious and cultural groups, and athletics team members, just to name a few.
There are 24 Resident Advisors, 3 Community Advisors, 2 Graduate Assistants, and 1 Associate Director, and hardworking Facilities staff who are all here to support and engage residents in their living environment.. As you can see, the Block Area is staffed with a wide-array of staff and resources for students.
