ABC Organization Basic Training
Basic Training is a mini-conference of workshops for
leaders of ABC organizations. Attendance is mandatory
for at least one executive board member of each organization,
but more are welcome and encouraged to register.
This leadership training is offered for organization
leaders at all levels. The mini-conference offers a
basic practices workshop, Lerner Event Management, Treasurer's
Workshops, and Special Topics in Leadership. Below are
some descriptions of the workshops you can choose from.
Workshops
ABC Organization "Nuts and Bolts"
We'll guide you through the basic procedures of organizational
leadership, the structure of SDA, and the responsibilities
and privileges of being an ABC-recognized organization.
Great for new leaders or as a refresher for returnees,
this session offers a guideline of University policies
for clubs and tips for success in your group's programs
and projects.
Treasurer's Workshop
Designed to introduce student leaders to budget and
fiscal management. Group treasurers are introduced to
University policy and procedure, legal documentation,
federal and state tax documents, invoices, statements,
negotiation tactics with outside vendors, contracts,
petty cash procedure, fundraising resources, and basic
finance principles. Attendance at a Treasurer's Workshop
is mandatory for all treasurers (alternate dates will
be offered).
Lerner Event Management
Lerner Hall is here to help make your event happen.
Learn all there is to know about making space reservations
on campus, a/v support, furniture requests, ticketing,
"LIONS" and more. Recommended for those groups
planning conferences, culture shows, theatrical performances
and parties.
Developing Leadership in Your Members
As a leader your natural focus is the growth and performance
of your organization. It is no secret that the quality
of leadership you and your group members provide everyday
is the engine that drives continued success. However
a powerful engine is worthless without the parts to
keep it running. Developing current talent for future
leadership positions ensures that your organization
has the supply of leaders that it needs to continue
to grow and succeed in the future. This training will
discuss how to ensure that your organization has a supply
of members ready to take the helm when the time comes.
Keeping an Eye on Your Plate
This session will focus on helping student leaders
assess and identify when their "plate" is
too full and when they may find themselves not using
the most productive time management strategies. This
session is especially important to those student leaders
who find themselves involved in numerous clubs or organizations;
therefore wearing a number of different "hats."
The session will also facilitate a look at solutions
which include touching up on effective time management,
being aware of symptoms of burnout, and how to use the
art of delegation to the benefit of the individual and
the group.
