King’s Crown Awards
The annual King's Crown Leadership Awards are presented
to undergraduate students who have demonstrated exemplary
leadership through their involvement in student organizations
and activities at Columbia University. Individual students
are nominated and selected for Gold, Silver and Bronze
Crown Pins, Horizon Awards and Leadership Legends by
a committee composed of representatives from undergraduate
advising offices and representatives of the student
government. Members of the Columbia community are invited
to vote for organizational awards.
King's
Crown Leadership Award Ceremony
The Award ceremony will be held Tuesday, April 29,
2003 in the Roone Arledge Auditorium of Alfred Lerner
Hall from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Gold, Silver, and Bronze Crown Leadership Awards
A King's Crown Awards Committee is assembled and charged
with nominating award recipients from among the recognized
undergraduate student group community. Awardees have
been active in at least one student organization, with
exemplary commitment and energy, and offered outstanding
examples of leadership to their groups or to the community.
The King's Crown Pins are awarded are in three categories:

Gold Crown nominees are seniors active at
least three years, or seniors whose leadership for
two years has been extraordinary. In addition, they
have made a significant impact or contribution in
a student organization.

Silver Crown nominees are juniors or seniors
active at least two years and who have demonstrated
significant leadership for at least two years within
a student organization.

Bronze Crowns nominees are students who
have demonstrated significant leadership roles in
their organization.
-
Silver and Bronze Horizon Awards
are presented to the Silver and Bronze level student
most exemplifying the promise and standard of these
categories.
Organizational Awards
The five organizational awards are

The Impact Award: Awarded to those student
organizations or programs that have had a significant
impact on the campus community.

The Alma Mater Award: Awarded to student
organizations, which best embody the ethic of community
building at Columbia.

The Intergroup Award: Awarded to student
organizations, which promote collaboration among
the various student organizations and programs.
-
The Promise Award: Awarded to recently recognized
as well as established student organizations with
the best potential for positive impact upon the
Columbia Campus.

The Best Program Award: Awarded to the student-led
program that has been most significant to the Columbia
community.
Leadership Legend Award
Leadership Legend Awards are a specially create to
honor a select group of no more than 12 senior student
leaders who have met the general qualifications of the
Gold Crown Award, and have further distinguished themselves
in one of the following areas:

Pioneer: As a student leader, the awardee
has been instrumental in the creation, revival or
rehabilitation of a student organization, a major
event or program, and/or student policy.

Bridge Builder: As a student leader, the
awardee has been pivotal in establishing or supporting
connections between student groups and/or between
student groups and the Administration.

Indelible Mark: As a student leader, the
awardee has in some capacity left an indelible mark
on the Columbia community.

the King's Crown Leadership Awards Committee administers
the King's Crown Leadership Awards Ceremony and selection
