The CUE Mission
OUR MISSION:
Columbia Urban Experience (CUE) is a pre-orientation program for BC, CC, SEAS, and GS students that strives to empower incoming first-years to explore what it means to be effectively engaged in one's community through direct service in the city of New York. We aim to explore the ethical perspectives of service, obstacles to conducting meaningful work, and forms of thoughtful, sustainable, and responsible service as university students in NYC. The program aims to enhance CUE-ers' experiences at various service sites with article-based discussions as well as opportunities to hear from individuals who have conducted work in the non-profit sector and who have encountered and considered these issues. Through its leaders, CUE seeks to ease the first-years' transition to college and to provide valuable mentoring that lasts well beyond the CUE week. As the school year begins, CUE fosters an ongoing evaluation of service, while maintaining the CUE family that will support and inspire CUE-ers in their leadership and social justice endeavors at Columbia University and beyond.
