Taking Courses in other Columbia Schools

Each year many seniors decide that they want to sample the courses available in other divisions within Columbia University. You must be sure, however, to refer to the Columbia College Bulletin or Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science Bulletin because there may be restrictions about which courses you can take, or how many outside courses you can count toward the degree. Also, many upper division schools severely limit access for undergraduates, since they must give priority to their own students. Keep in mind that although you may feel you are ready for these courses, it is up to each school to determine the minimum qualifications for the students in their classrooms. If you are in doubt about a particular course or division, check with a Class Dean before you try to register for any courses outside of your own school.
