Taking More Than the Semester Credit Limit

Columbia College students are allowed to register for a maximum of 22 points each semester; Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science students are allowed to register for a maximum of 21 points each term. If you need to take more than the credit limit established for each school, you must petition the Junior Senior Advising Center. Please refer to the Petition Process section for details.

Petition forms are available at Junior Senior Advising Center and on the downloadable forms for juniors or the downloadable forms for seniors. Depending on your request, supporting documentation may be required in addition to the petition form.

*Petitions are reviewed every Monday morning by the Committee and therefore must be submitted to the appropriate Junior Senior Advising Center location by noon on the preceding Friday. You will be notified via e-mail of the Committee's decision. It is imperative that your petition be thorough and clear. Incomplete or missing information will result in a delayed decision by the Committee.
