Graduation Information

The staff of the Junior Senior Advising Center is here to assist you in preparing for graduation. We realize there are many things to pay attention to, including the following pertinent information:

  • Graduation Checklist - Take a look at the Graduation Checklist to make sure you have done all you need to do before you finish your time here at Columbia. Includes pertinent information and/or links to the Application for the Degree, graduation clearance, ceremonies, and ticket sales.
  • Application for the Degree - Did you know you had to APPLY to graduate? To find out how to do this, please visit the Application for the Degree page. (http://www.columbia.edu/cu/registrar/docs/forms/app-for-deg-or-cert.html)
  • Graduation Clearance- In order to graduate, you must be "cleared" for graduation. The graduation clearance (hyperlink to: http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/seniors/gradinfo/clearance.php) process entails a review of your record to make sure you have met all requirements.
  • Graduation ceremonies - Generally, there are three ceremonies that take place for CC and SEAS undergraduates in May: the Baccalaureate Ceremony, Class Day, and University Commencement. For more information on these ceremonies, please see the Junior/Senior Advising Center web site and the GraduationZone web site.
  • Diploma - Your diploma will indicate the degree you receive, meaning Bachelor of Arts ( Columbia College) or Bachelor of Science (SEAS). Your major, concentration, or minor will be noted on your transcript, not your diploma. For more detailed information on what appears on your diploma and how to pick yours up, please visit the Diploma page
  • Academic Honors and Departmental Awards - In order to be eligible for honors, you must be enrolled as a full-time student (at least twelve credits) in all semesters. (This is also true for Dean's List). You may not apply for honors. For more information, please visit the "Academic Honors and Departmental Awards" page.
  • FAQ's about Graduation - So you've reviewed the above information and still have questions about graduation? Visit our FAQ's about graduation page.
