Barnard College-Spelman College
and
Columbia University-Howard University Exchange
Program
The Columbia University Office
of Student Affairs and the Barnard
College Office of the Dean of Studies are
pleased to announce the expansion of their domestic
exchange programs with prominent historically
black colleges and universities.
Beginning with applications for Spring 2003,
Barnard College juniors will now have the opportunity
to apply to the exchange program with Howard
University and Columbia University juniors
(women only) will be able to apply to the exchange
program with Spelman
College. Visiting students from those institutions
will continue to reside on the campus through
which the original agreement emanates.
The program's guidelines are as follows:
All students
- Students must have junior class standing
with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8. Ideally
students will have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- No more than 5 students, jointly, will participate
in the Exchanges each semester.
- Students are responsible for their own travel
expenses/arrangements and the purchase of their
books.
- Academic credits will be handled through
the same process as study abroad credit is handled
at the home institution.
- Students attending Spelman College are responsible
for bringing their own telephone and answering
machine and for obtaining the meningitis vaccination.
- Applications are due each year in mid-October
and in mid-April to the home institution's office
as noted below and are reviewed by a joint Columbia
University-Barnard College Committee.
