Student and Alumni Programs
Student- Alumni Programs bridges the gap between life as a student and life after graduation, while helping students build deep connections that will make Columbia feel like home. An increase in contact between students and alumni serves to reinforce Columbia traditions, develop loyalty, instill school pride, and underscore the responsibility each member of the community has to give back.
This joint venture between Columbia Student Affairs and various offices across the University strives to:
- Create a student culture that supports a lifelong commitment to the Columbia community, through the gifts of time, talent, and financial support.
- Create opportunities for alumni to engage with students in ways that strengthen the community at Columbia and beyond.
Programming and Events
Alumni-hosted events provide students with several opportunities to interact with alumni outside the campus, including workplace tours, arts involvement, dinners and event outings.
Student-Alumni Programs works independently or in concert with career services such as the Center for Career Education and the Office of Pre-Professional Advising to develop programs that range from alumnus workplace visits and mock interviews, to career-focused panel discussions. Student-Alumni Programs also partners with the Office of Residential Programs to host programs such as the Living and Learning Center Dinner and Discussion Series, where students have the opportunity to join alumni who are doing extraordinary work in their fields for dinner and conversation.
Many student organizations have strong alumni support networks comprised of alumni who were active in the organization when they were students. Alumni often serve as informal advisers are invited to speak at group meeting and events. Check the new LionLink student organization event calendar listing for details on upcoming student events that may involve alumni.
Celebrations and Traditions
Columbia traditions come full circle when alumni hand out copies of the Iliad to incoming students at Summer Advising sessions and then return to campus participate in the Parade of Classes at Class Day. From Convocation to Homecoming – these traditions are cherished by alumni and present a perfect opportunity to stay involved and feel connected to Columbia.
Please check the resources highlighted above often for frequent updates on new events and opportunities to connect with alumni.
