Transfer Student Information

Hello Transfer Students! Welcome to Columbia University!

We are excited that you will be joining us this fall. As you prepare to arrive at Columbia, there are several things that you should be thinking about. Some of these have already been addressed, and some may need to be addressed in the near future. Please pay close attention to deadlines.

You should have received a copy of the Academic Planning Guide in the mail, which covers much of this information.

Housing and Move-in Information

All transfer students are invited to move in on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. You will receive a mailing from Student & Administrative Services with more specific move-in procedures and other important information to help prepare for your arrival on campus. You will also receive an email from Columbia Housing with your housing assignment, if applicable.

Petition Process

Columbia College transfer students should have already received an email from Dean Orr with specific instructions on how to petition for exemption from core courses. Please read that email carefully and note the preferred deadline of TBD.

Columbia Engineering transfer students have received an email communication from Dean Strickland. This includes information on non-technical “core” courses as well as foundational science courses. Once again, the preferred deadline is TBD.

Registration Information

Incoming transfer students will have their first opportunities to register TBD. Please review our step-by-step registration instructions to prepare.

Advising

Contact information for your CSA Advising Dean can be found at the bottom of the tentative TCE you received with your admissions materials. We strongly suggest that you schedule a 15-30 minute pre-registration telephone appointment with your adviser the week before registration, and please don’t hesitate to contact your adviser with questions in the meantime!

Additional Resources

You'll find important information--including deadlines--about a range of topics, such as getting your Columbia ID card, immunization documents, and meal plans, on the new student website, brought to you by Student and Administrative Services.
