a Claude Debussy, Finale (Jota) from the Three-Cornered Hat
A program of 'posers', this program begins with a series of French composers and their forays into the Spanish style, showcasing their respective abilities to alter their own personal trademarks to create sounds that are different from what we are used to hearing from Debussy, Chabrier, Lalo and the like. The program then ends with 'the real McCoy,' if you will, with some orchestral pieces and songs by Manuel de Falla, a truly Spanish composer. To conclude the program, the penultimate piece, 'a Claude Debussy,' brings us back full circle, with a Spanish composer giving a nod to a French composer and taking on bits of French compositional style.
