First of a 3-part series on the 3 portrait operas of Philip Glass. We heard the 1993 recording of "Einstein on the Beach," plus contextual information on Glass, Robert Wilson, Christopher Knowles, Albert Einstein, and Mr. Bojangles (also Jerry Jeff Walker, by extension), and excerpts of the libretto/Christopher Knowles' poetry and of Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow." Nina Simone closed the show with a sultry rendition of "Mr. Bojangles."
Look out for the 2012 Pomegranate-arts revival of "Einstein on the Beach!"
