Live Constructions Playlists

This evening, we listened to two field recordings recorded by Aki Onda, a self-taught musician, composer, producer, and multi-media artist currently based out of Brooklyn.

We first heard the entirety of his first-ever cassette recording, "First Thought Best Thought," a field recording that began as a sort of audio-diary for Onda in Morocco 1988. We then heard a bit about the piece and his tape music. We then went on to hear one of two field recordings of the sea in Normandy, this one entitled "Ocean Celestum."

We were joined in studio this evening by two New York-based groups, Yellow Tears and Cowards. Yellow Tears first played a live set at the station and then joined us in the studio to play some selected YT recordings. We then listened to few choice Cowards tracks, and then heard a live set from the band.

Samita Sinha is a vocalist, trained in classical Hindustani music, who explores the staggering depth of expression that, through electronic processing, computer technology allows her. Tonight she performed a live set first, during which she used live vocal looping to create an extremely textured piece. We then spoke about the inspiration for this piece and her other works, the unique position she is in thanks to her musical training and evolution, and her attitudes and feelings about music as an art alongside other forms of artistic expression.
