On this last Transfigured Night of the year, we feature the American composer Terry Riley, who is renowned for his minimalist music and use of tape loops, electronics, etc. For the greater part of the show we play his earlier works dating back to the 1960s.
This show was focused in exploring the music of Elliott Sharp through his different projects and collaborations. We explore some of his solo projects but also his work with Carbon as well as his collaboration with Merzbow.
Elliott Sharp will be playing at The Freedom Garden on January 19th, 2013.
We don't say "eggplant," "giraffe," or "mistletoe" every day, but they are present in our consciousness of the world around us. This is a program dedicated to specific plants, animals, herbs, mushrooms that we encounter but occasionally, perhaps once in a few weeks or months. They occupy places in our mental space, in our mental conception of the universe, and remind us of how life cannot be reduced to a few propositions about the physical world, about human consciousness, or about the industrial economy etc.
This Transfigured Night featured a pre-recorded live set from the band Zs (Sam Hillmer: tenor sax; Patrick Higgins: guitar; Greg Fox: percussion). Zs will be playing at the Bowery Electric at 7pm on Sunday, Nov. 25th, 2012.
A brief focus on solo work of Sachiko M, and a longer look at her collaboration with Keith Rowe, Toshimaru Nakamura, and Otomo Yoshihide. Followed by a collaboration between Yoshihide and Gunter Muller.
The musicians from the Sonic Arts Union, a collective of artists active in the 1960s and 70s, including Alvin Lucier, Robert Ashley. Gordon Mumma, and David Behrman. We listen to the works of these four artists throughout their respective careers.
