This evening, Andrew Kzirian, a talented oud player, came into the studio to play some of his own compositions as well as some classical Ottoman oud pieces. We discussed the unique role the oud plays in Middle Eastern music, the difficulties and complexities of the instrument, and the place of Ottoman-Armenian composers in the oud tradition and in the Armenian music tradition.
