Wayne Shorter (b. 8/5/1933), saxophonist and composer. His early output, stint with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, the Blue Note years, work and development with Miles' Second Great Quintet, explorations in fusion with Weather Report, and modern work with his new Quartet.
Today's show focused on the powerhouse tandem of John Carter, the reeds master who eventually centered his astonishing energies solely on the clarinet, and Bobby Bradford, the melodic trumpet heir to Fats Navarro responsible for recorded exemplars of free jazz trumpet. Together they produced many classic recordings even as they fashioned a strong, grounded, and adventurous creative music scene on the West Coast.
