First, we heard the world premiere recording of Eotvos's "Three Sisters," a modern, sparse opera retelling of the original Chekhov story of the same name. From the sisters being played by countertenors to the use of an onstage and a pit orchestra, Eotvos's opera shows the timelessness of the existential questions that arise in the monotony of life for the sisters.

The first part of this program took a look at various solo piano recordings across differing styles (Monk, Tatum, Hines, Tyner, Shipp).

The second part of this show was dedicated to presenting musicians performing at the 2010 Undead Jazzfest (Shipp, Weiss, Coleman, Berne, Allison, Douglas). The Undead Jazzfest takes place on June 12 & 13 across three Greenwich Village venues: Le Poisson Rouge, Kenny's Castaways, and Sullivan Hall. See www.undeadjazzfest.com for more information.

We were joined in studio this evening by two New York-based groups, Yellow Tears and Cowards. Yellow Tears first played a live set at the station and then joined us in the studio to play some selected YT recordings. We then listened to few choice Cowards tracks, and then heard a live set from the band.

Yellow Tears is Ryan Woodhall, Jeremy Nissan, and Frank Ludovico. To find out more about Yellow Tears, their upcoming tour dates, and their most recent releases, check out www.yellowtears.com.
