A program of 'posers', this program begins with a series of French composers and their forays into the Spanish style, showcasing their respective abilities to alter their own personal trademarks to create sounds that are different from what we are used to hearing from Debussy, Chabrier, Lalo and the like. The program then ends with 'the real McCoy,' if you will, with some orchestral pieces and songs by Manuel de Falla, a truly Spanish composer.
Today's program began with an interview with pianist and composer Satoko Fujii and her husband, trumpeter Natsuki Tamura. Fujii's ma-do group will be kicking off the 2011 Undead Jazz Festival tonight at Le Poisson Rouge.
