Saxophonist, composer and producer Azar Lawrence joined us in the studio to talk about his most recent record, Mystic Journey, and his May 5th gig at the Jazz Standard with his quartet (Jeremy Pelt, Billy Hart, Essiet Essiet, Benito Gonzalez). The McCoy Tyner compositions that began the show all feature Azar on saxophone.
For this Sunday's 'Live Constructions' we were fortunate enough to have Baltimore-based musician and artist Jenny Graf Sheppard in-studio. Jenny came in Tuesday afternoon to record a live set and an interview at WKCR's studios in conjunction with two shows the following day at the Stone -- one solo set and one with MV Carbon in their duo project Metalux.
Jenny played a thirty minute electronics set incorporating vocals, samples, and even harmonica, and then spoke about her set, her curatorial work, her work in Harrius, exploring "memory" in her Guitar Project, and more.
