This evening we were joined by Kyle Bobby Dunn, a Brooklyn-based composer, who came in and performed a live set for us. Kyle then told us about his upcoming performances, about the process of composing, and about his new releases. We also listened to two tracks from a 2010 release of his, "A Young Person's Guide to Kyle Bobby Dunn."
A special broadcast dedicated to J.S. Bach in honor of his 325th Birthday, March 21 (O.S. Calendar) or March 31 (N.S. Calendar) 1685. Everything aired on this program was under the direction of Karl Richter, with the Munich Bach Choir and Munich Bach Orchestra.
This evening, Andrew Kzirian, a talented oud player, came into the studio to play some of his own compositions as well as some classical Ottoman oud pieces. We discussed the unique role the oud plays in Middle Eastern music, the difficulties and complexities of the instrument, and the place of Ottoman-Armenian composers in the oud tradition and in the Armenian music tradition.
