Ahmed Abdullah on the Musician's Show: Wednesday, July 16 at 6pm

This Wednesday evening, be sure to tune into the Musician's Show, where we are joined by a very special guest: trumpet player Ahmed Abdullah. Ahmed has had a long and exciting career as a jazz musician; while he is perhaps best known for his work with the Sun Ra Arkestra, he has also performed with players such as Arthur Blythe, Billy Bang, and Marion Brown. He leads Diaspora (Dispersions of Sun Ra) and Ebonic Tones in addition to being a founding member of the collective quartet NAM. Ahmed continues to support jazz and the jazz community not only as a player but also as an organizer and an educator. He is the music director of Sistas' Place, a Brooklyn coffee house and hub for both music and activism. Abdullah was a founding member of the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium (CBJC), whose goal is to produce Jazz Festivals and other events in Brooklyn, and has taught at Carnegie Hall's Education Department, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and PS 3 in  Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Along with an evening's worth of musical selection, Ahmed is sure to bring plenty of valuable insight to the show, which you can catch from 6 to 9 PM...only on WKCR.
